Foreign Affairs Minister Simbarashe Mumbengegwi yesterday met visiting Chinese Foreign Affairs Deputy Minister Mr Zhang Ming to discuss various ways of enhancing relations between Harare and Beijing.

Mr Zhang is leading a five-member delegation that is in Zimbabwe for a three-day visit.

Speaking after the meeting, Mr Zhang said he hoped relations between the two countries would continue to grow.

“I had a friendly discussion with the minister, China and Zimbabwe have good relations and our two ministries have good exchanges. We look forward to high-level development of this relationship in the near future,” he said.

China and Zimbabwe relations date back to the days of the liberation struggle and have grown from strength to strength culminating in the signing of several multi-billion-dollar mega deals that will see massive investment from the Asian economic giant.

The deals will see Zimbabwe benefiting immensely in the power sector, infrastructure such as rail and road development and agriculture among other key sectors of the economy.
