Midlands State University has successfully defended their Enactus National championship title at the Zimbabwe Enactus National Competitions held at the Celebration Centre in Harare two weeks ago.

The MSU Enactus boost team won the overall Enactus competition as they presented two innovative projects and one of which was an online website that enables off campus students to get accommodation.

The team also won the best sustainable development oriented project prize, which was accompanied by a cheque of $1 000 and the right to represent Zimbabwe during the 2018 World Championships to be held in Silicon Valley ,San Jose, California in the US from October 9 to 10.

MSU managed to shrug off competition from National University of Science and Technology (NUST) and Chinhoyi University of Technology (CUT) who finished second and third respectively at the competitions where nine tertiary institutions were represented.

Speaking in an interview after the competition, MSU Enactus president Mr Sipho Sibanda said the team was happy after winning the National Championships for the second year running and they were going to work hard to ensure that they raised the country and the university’s flags high at the World Championships.

“We are happy that we have won the national championships and we will represent both the University and Zimbabwe at the world champions, which will be held in California in the US,” he said.

“We will be going there for the second year running and it was a distinct honour and privilege to have represented the country at the 2017 Enactus World Cup which were hosted by the United Kingdom in London and we are looking forward this year’s competitions.”

Mr Sibanda said the team had learnt a lot from their last campaign where they defied all odds and reached the semi-finals despite the fact that they lost in the semi-finals to eventual champions India.

“Last year, we defied all odds and we reached the semi-finals and we were knocked out by the eventual winners India, but this time around we are going to use the experience we obtained from last year’s championships and we hope that it will be enough for us to reach the final,” said Mr Sibanda.

MSU director of public relations Mrs Mirirai Mawere said she was happy that the Enactus team had successfully defended their championship for the second time and they were going to represent the university and the nation at large at the international stage.

“We are happy that our Enactus boost team successfully defended its title and is going to represent the university and the nation at the global stage, which will be good for the university,” she said.
