Masvingo Rural District Council has completed a $200 000 road tarring project to modernise Nemamwa Growth Point in line with the local authority’s 100-day plan.

The project saw about 2km of the road being tarred.

Masvingo RDC chief executive Mr Martin Mubviro yesterday said the local authority was also involved in a number of other developmental projects with the road network upgrade being top on the agenda.

“We have just completed the surfacing of a 2km road stretch at Nemamwa Growth Point.

“The project cost us about $200 000, which was disbursed by the Zimbabwe National Road Authority to us for the 2018 first quarter,” he said.

Mr Mubviro said the local authority wanted to upgrade the road network in rural parts of Masvingo district with a target to rehabilitate at least 120km.

“The tarring of the Nemamwa Growth Point main road will help traffic and movement of shoppers.

“We are also attending storm water drainage systems, rehabilitating dip tanks and building clinics in the district using revenue collected from our residents , business community and mining companies,” he said.

Mr Mubviro said council was building a shelter for expecting mothers at Mukosi Clinic in Ward 22 while a new clinic was under construction in Ward 30.

“We are constructing Chisase Clinic and the primary health facility is now about 80 percent complete as we speak.

“We are also on the ground rehabilitating the Nyajena access road in Masvingo South. We are constructing a bridge along the same road,” he said.

Mr Mubviro hailed communities in his area for supporting development initiatives saying Masvingo RDC strongly supported President Mnangagwa’s 100-day plan.

Turning to investments in the district he said some investors have made contact with Masvingo RDC over the establishment of a mini-hydro power plant at Lake Mutirikwi and a cement manufacturing plant in Charumbira communal area.

He said feasibility studies for the two projects have been done amid hopes that one of the ventures will commence before year end.
