IN-FORM top amateur golfer, Tafara Mpofu, once again proved why he is the man to beat when he won the Harare Amateur Championship at Ruwa Country Club on Sunday. The Chapman-based player managed rounds of 77, 73, 71 and 68 for a total 289.

Another Chapman player, Tafadzwa Nyamukondiwa was the runner-up.
Nyamukondiwa, a national team player, posted 69, 73, 75 and 76 during the four rounds for a total 293, four shots behind the eventual winner Mpofu.

The event, which came barely a week after the Midlands Amateur had a low turnout with only 29 players.
Lewis Graeme of Royal Harare finished third off his scratch handicap.
The seasoned campaigner had rounds of 76, 78, 75 and 75 for his 304.
Tinaye Chatambudza of Chapman also made the top five.

Chatambudza, who is improving with each passing tournament, played off two handicap and had rounds of 75, 74, 73 and 75.
Ruwa Country Club also had a golfer on the podium in Jonas Adamson, who is playing off five handicap.

Promise Sumburero, Tatenda Makunde, Lazarus Clever, Shephard Chiwaya and Conrad Makoto completed the top ten.
Meanwhile, Mark Williams made the cut on the Sunshine Tour at the Royal Swazi Open at the weekend.
The South Africa-based professional was tied on position 24 at six-under after the three rounds.
Williams who was the only local to make the cut pocketed R8 656.

He had rounds of 68, 72 and 70.
The tournament was won by Andre de Decker.
He beat Michael Palmer on the fifth play-off hole after they both finished on 16-under-par 200 after 54 holes.
