Women who usually bear the brunt of water challenges in the rural areas as they walk long distance to fetch water for domestic use have been breathing sighs of relief in almost every ward because of the installation of boreholes.

Despite being endowed with good rainfall patterns Chiweshe faces challenges in accessing clean water due to scarcity of boreholes and tapes.

However, through Government efforts many wards in Mazowe North are bidding farewell to water challenges.

Through the legislator Cde Campion Mugweni, the constituency now has 15 boreholes with more being drilled in villages that are still experiencing challenges of accessing water.

“We have been addressing the water challenge.

“We have never stopped moving around the constituency drilling boreholes except when we only had logistical issues but in many instances we have made sure we left people with a safe source of water,” said Mugweni.

Communities such as the Madombwe, Chigwida, Holland, Forrester and parts of Chiweshe have had boreholes installed in their areas.

The Presidential Borehole drilling programme has also made a huge impact in alleviating the water shortage in Chiweshe.

“Currently we have the borehole rig in Chiweshe, Jingamvura where villagers no longer experience water challenges as they now have borehole. The Second Republic is keen on leaving no one and no place behind in terms of development,” said Cde Mugweni.

The Bare community with the help of the MP successfully constructed a weir providing water to livestock and gardening projects.

Through further engagement efforts with local civic organisations including Kurainashe in Ward 28, a solar powered borehole was installed to boost a community garden which is currently providing food and nutrition security to more than 100 households.

“The community garden which is located in Ward 28 Mvurwi is currently assisting more than 100 households including those affected and those living with HIV/AIDS.

“This has been made possible by the participation of local stakeholders like the Mvurwi Town Council and Kurainashe organisation which installed a high solar powered borehole for irrigation purposes.”
