“I was sent by the President (Mugabe) with a condolence message to the Chidavaenzi family. Cde Chidavaenzi was a reliable person when it came to representing his people. He worked hard for the land reform to succeed,” he said.

“We thank him for the job he did for the country. His wish was to see Mazowe area develop, he was not in the party to make up the numbers. It is a great loss of a reliable, dependable citizen. We are left with a big wound as Mashonaland Central. We are very saddened by his untimely death.”

Cde Chidavaenzi (52) was found dead in a city hotel room on Thursday last week and his colleagues told The Herald that he was suffering from diabetes and hypertension.

Minister of State for Provincial Affairs for Mashonaland Central,Cde Martin Dinha said Cde Chidavaenzi was an upright person who brought up a new breed of youths who shunned corruption and factionalism.

Mashonaland Central provincial chairperson Cde Dickson Mafios warned anyone who wanted to fill his post must be a person ready to stand for and work with the people.

“We will make sure that Mazowe will benefit from his vision and ideas. For those who are already campaigning, this is not a post that just fits or come overnight. You must convince the constituency and the leadership at party level,” he said.

Present at the funeral was the Deputy Speaker of Parliament Cde Mabel Chinomona, Primary and Secondary Education Minister Dr Lazarus Dokora, Women’s Affairs, Gender and Community Development Deputy Minister Abigal Damasane, Hurungwe West MP Cde Keith Guzah, Bindura South legislator Cde Remigio Matangira, Bindura North MP Kenneth Musanhi, Rushinga MP Wonder Mashange, Chegutu West MP Dexter Nduna among many others.

Cde Chidavaenzi is survived by his wife and four children.
