Mliswa’s election agent arrested

Chinhoyi Bureau
Hurungwe West by-election independent candidate Temba Mliswa’s chief election agent, Goodwell Zinyama, has been arrested.

Zinyama was arrested by police officers from CID Chinhoyi Law and Order to answer to assault charges.

He is being held in Chinhoyi and is expected to appear in court today.

Mliswa’s lawyer, Mr Musindo Hungwe, confirmed the arrest.

“Mr Zinyama was arrested on Wednesday in Chinhoyi while on his way to meet other election agents,” he said.

“This is a continuation of the madness where police are forced to release the candidate and they immediately arrest the chief election agent on the same day.”

Mliswa was arrested on Monday on allegations of defacing campaign posters of his rival Zanu-PF candidate, Cde Keith Guzah.

He was released because evidence produced by police was not sufficient to put him on remand.

Mliswa was released on Wednesday and the matter will proceed by way of summons.

The former Zanu-PF Mashonaland West provincial chairman has had several brushes with the law.

Zinyama was once arrested in 2014 together with eight supporters of Mliswa on allegations of assaulting Hurungwe East legislator and then provincial Women’s League chairlady Cde Sarah Mahoka at Zvimonja Business Centre

He was later acquitted of the charges.
