Sheila Chikengezha from Harare was crowned Miss Curvy 2014 at a colourful ceremony held at Caribbea Bay Hotel in Kariba on Saturday.
The 19-year-old model beat 17 other models that were vying for the crown that recognises beauty in curvaceous women.Chantelle Jeradi (19) and Chengetayi Mnisi (20) were crowned first and second princess respectively.

Speaking after being crowned, Sheila said she was overwhelmed by the recognition and would do her best to ensure she makes a broad statement about beautiful women that are overlooked by traditional pageants that seek slim and slender models. “All women should be proud of how God created them.

“I am very happy that this pageant goes beyond the constraints of traditional pageants and recognises beauty beyond weight and height,” she said.

“As Miss Curvy, I will embark on numerous charity projects. I was really touched by the lives of several people in need here in Kariba and I will ensure that they are assisted.
“There are many orphans that need assistance and I will engage various people to try and help them.” Sheila said the Miss Curvy pageant had taught her to be strong and patient.

“During our days in camp, I learnt that we should always be patient with each other. I came from the pageant a stronger woman because this was a serious challenge and it has positively contributed to the way I tackle challenges in life.”

Chengetayi said she would work with the queen in various projects to assist the disadvantaged.

“I am happy for this achievement and I would like to work closely with the queen during our reign.  This achievement should be an example to many. Women should know that they have many opportunities, even if the community looks down upon them because of several reasons,” she said.

Chantelle echoed her companions’ sentiments and promised to do the best to take the pageant to another level.

“I am grateful and I want people to know that they can achieve anything in life. It is a matter of commitment and I will do my best to take the pageant to another level. It is an eye-opener. I have seen the power of prayer and I thank God for this achievement,” she said.

Organiser of the pageant Mercy Mushaninga said she was happy the pageant had run smoothly. “It is not easy to travel this far and have such a successful event.

“I am happy we have made it this year and I hope those chosen to be at the top will represent us well. We still need support to make a point about women with curves and we will continue working hard,” said Mushaninga.

The pageant brought together people from different backgrounds. Besides modelling, the event brought an exciting night on the shores of Lake Kariba as entertainers that include Pee Kay and DX Onesimo gave good performances that left many asking for more.

Pee Kay said he was honoured to perform at the event.

“It was great to perform at this event. We would like to support good initiatives like Miss Curvy and I wish the winners the best in their roles,” he said.
