Minister Nzenza meets new Zisco Steel board A pair of statutory instruments gazetted yesterday gave effect to the decision by Minister of Industry and Commerce Sekai Nzenza to reimpose controls on the imports of these products. Both amend the regulations concerning the control of goods.

Industry and Commerce Minister Dr Sekai Nzenza yesterday paid tribute to former Zisco Steel acting board chairperson Professor Gift Mugano for giving strategic direction to the company.

Dr Nzenza, who met the Zisco Steel board and new chief executive Dr Farai Karonga, said a new board chairperson will be appointed soon.

“On behalf of the Ministry of Industry and Commerce, the minister would like to thank Professor Mugano for his contribution to Zisco Steel (Pvt) Ltd in his capacity,” she said.

“Going forward, the new board chairperson responsible for leading the development of a vibrant steel strategy will be announced in due course.”

Dr Nzenza, who is also the chairperson of the Ad-Hoc Ministerial Committee on the resuscitation of Zisco Steel, expressed confidence in the board and the new CEO to lead of Zisco Steel, which she said was pivotal to the growth and turnaround of Zimbabwe’s steel industry strategic direction.

“The Zisco board is now validly constituted with a mature, diverse, and competent team of experienced professionals, who individually expressed their strong desire to lead the revival of ZISCO utilising new technologies,” she said.

“The Ministry of Industry and Commerce remains committed to the promotion of best practice of corporate governance, transparency and accountability.”

Apart from announcing the appointment of Dr Karonga last week, Dr Nzenza announced the appointment of three additional board members Engineer Martin Manhuwa, Mr Demand Gwatinetsa and Mr Edmore Tafirenyika.
