MDC-T believes in dialogue Commissioner Obert Gutu

MDC-T will remain a key component and participant in the historic Political Actors Dialogue (POLAD) launched by President Mnangagwa, as it believes dialogue is the most productive option in solving the country’s socio-economic challenges, the party’s vice president Mr Obert Gutu has said.

He told The Herald on Monday that they are convinced as a party that dialogue was the best way of reviving the country’s economy.
“The MDC-T believes in dialogue as opposed to confrontation,” said Mr Gutu.

“As such, we shall remain an integral component and key player in the Political Actors Dialogue. We are convinced that dialogue is the best option of solving Zimbabwe’s socio-economic challenges.”

Mr Gutu said the party has re-branded and repositioned itself as a patriotic, Pan-Africanist and homegrown political party, contrary to the belief that it was created mainly for the purpose of fostering a regime change agenda.

“For far too long, the MDC-T has been branded as a puppet political party, a party created solely for the purpose of pursuing a regime change agenda in order to satisfy the whims and fantasies of some powerful Western nations,” he said.

“We have since deliberately re-branded ourselves into a patriotic, homegrown and Pan-Africanist political party. We confidently and unashamedly occupy the centre-left position, ideologically. We are true and authentic social democrats advocating for the creation of a stable, progressive, peaceful social democratic nation state in Zimbabwe where all citizens are treated as equals regardless of race, ethnicity, colour or creed.”

Mr Gutu said implementation of operational and holistic measures was needed to effectively fight corruption as it was crippling the country’s economy.

“MDC-T’s position on corruption is clear and unequivocal: We strongly advocate for the adoption and implementation of effective and holistic measures to identify, curb and ultimately eliminate all forms of corruption,” he said.
“Corruption is a cancer that is deeply embedded in Zimbabwe and must be crushed.”
