Rising Afro-fusion artiste Ashton Nyahora, aka Mbeu, is slowly sinking his roots in the hearts of many local music lovers.

This is evidenced by growing numbers at his shows, with some fans travelling long distances to see him in action.

Performing at Club Manake in Ruwa last weekend, Mbeu and his well jelled band, the Mhodzi Tribe, attracted fans that travelled from as far as Bindura and his hometown, Norton among other distant places.

Mbeu’s manager Eugene Museredza said they have been enjoying support everywhere they perform.

“We have a strong support base, fans who follow us wherever we play and we are really humbled and appreciate them,” he said.

“Norton has always supported us. At this show we have 15 people who have travelled from Norton for the love of music and just to support Mbeu and the Mhodzi Tribe.”

Mbeu was staging a show in Ruwa for the second time, but it was evident that most of his fans already knew his songs as they sang along to popular tracks like “Ndikafa” and “Mavanga”.

He made revellers feel part of the set when he invited them to dance to different jams on stage. At some point he allowed some individuals to lead the set as he and his band settled for playing instruments while members of the crowd dominated the stage.

Mbeu, set to launch his debut album “Hatizvimirire” on June 30 at Pakare Paye Arts Centre in Norton, has been in the music industry since 2012 when he was part of the Starbrite finalists.

He was once part of Afro-fusion band Tsvete as lead vocalist but left the group to start his solo career after misunderstandings with his fellow band members and management.

As a solo artiste Mbeu has performed at different platforms including this year’s annual Harare International Festival of the Arts (HIFA) where he serenaded music lover at Coca Cola Green stage.
