Growing 127 mbanje plants in his garden has landed a 67-year-old Zaka man in trouble. Chavingira Chavingira of Chapfuva Village in Ndanga communal lands was accused of growing mbanje for recreational use and for sale. His neighbours decided to tip-off police, leading to his arrest.

Masvingo acting provincial police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa yesterday said Chavingira will appear in court soon.

He said police recovered the mbanje plants that will be used in court as exhibit. Detectives reportedly raided the senior citizen on March 30 this year.

Chavingira then confessed and led detectives to his garden, where 127 plants were found.
Asst Insp Dhewa warned members of the public against using or selling dangerous drugs such as mbanje.
