Gospel musician Mathias Mhere is on cloud nine following his nomination for the National Arts Merit Awards. Mhere will be battling it out with the cream of the Zimbabwean entertainment Jah Prayzah, Killer T and Winky D in two categories. The “Favour” hit maker has been nominated in categories Outstanding Album and Outstanding Male musician.Interestingly the award ceremony will be held three days after the prolific musician launches his fourth album “Double Double” at the Rainbow Towers hotel on February 10.

“It was great news to hear about the nominations, it shows God has something to tell the people,” he said. He said even if he fails to win the nominations were enough to prove that gospel music is a force to reckon in the country.

“Recently we had my brother in the ministry Blessing Shumba crowned gospel musician of the year at the Coca Cola Radio Zimbabwe competition and now these nominations are coming it shows how people love the genre in the country,” he said.

Mhere said the nomination was a blessing to him as the event ceremony will be held shortly after the launch of his new album. “We will have an album launch on February 10 and the event ceremony will be held three days later so to me this is just a blessing. God is blessing us in doubles,” he said.

Songs on the album are “Double Double”, “Makorokoza Muchurch”, “Seri Kweguva” “Nhau YaNoah”, “Kesari”, “Judas”, “Chanza”, “Nhava Yebenzi”, “Be Still” and “Pharao”.

To promote his album he has lined up a number of shows across the country. On February 27 the musician will be performing in Beitbridge at Pagomba Café. The show is likely to thrill fans as it will be one of the biggest events after the launch of his new material.
