LEICESTER City prodigy Tawanda Maswanhise has received his first national team call-up after his was included in the 25-man Zimbabwe squad for the 2022 World Cup football qualifiers against South Africa and Ethiopia later this month.

The 18-year-old winger is the youngest player in the squad that reflects an exciting blend of youth and experience.

Warriors coach Norman Mapeza has also reached out to England based forward, Macauley Bonne, who has been in imperial form for Ipswich Town, in the English League One.

Youthful Germany-based midfielder Jonah Fabisch has also received another call up. The 20-year-old is yet to receive his senior team cap.

But he has been part of the Warriors squad in this campaign and sat on the bench when Zimbabwe opened their quest against South Africa and Ethiopia earlier in the year.

Defender Brendan Galloway, who featured in the back-to-back games against Ghana, is also back in the squad along with Tendayi Darikwa, David Moyo and Divine Lunga.

Mapeza also settled for experienced players like Khama Billiat, Marvelous Nakamba, Kuda Mahachi, Knox Mutizwa and Alec Mudimu.

Skipper Knowledge Musona, Teenage Hadebe, Tino Kadewere, Marshall Munetsi and Jordan Zemura are notable omissions because of injuries.

Mapeza has also called in a number of local players including the trio of goalkeepers Taimon Mvula, Donovan Benard and Petros Mhari.

Zimbabwe are scheduled to play Bafana Bafana at FNB Stadium in Johannesburg next Thursday. Kick-off is 9pm. They will then welcome Ethiopia three days later at the National Sports Stadium.

The Warriors, who have since bowed out of the running for a place at the Qatar World Cup, are still looking to finish the campaign strongly.

They are using the games as part of the preparations for the 2021 AFCON finals to be held in Cameroon in two months’ time.
