Masvingo City’s quest to become an industrialised metropolitan city by 2030 continues to gain traction after the local authority received three fire tenders from Government under the Belarus facility in a development that will help the ancient city cope with fire incidents within its municipal boundaries and across the entire province.

The delivery of the three fire tenders brings to five the city’s complement of fire fighting vehicles and augurs well for the local authority’s capacity to combat fire incidences in the city and along the recently upgraded and modernised Harare-Masvingo-Beitbridge highway.

Masvingo town clerk Engineer Edward Mukaratirwa paid homage to the Government under President Mnangagwa for facilitating the Belarus fire tenders facility by using council’s share of devolution funds for the project.

”We want to thank the Government because council (Masvingo City) alone would have never managed to purchase three fire tenders but now we have them thanks to the Belarus facility. We now boast a complement of five fire tenders which will enable us to deal with emergencies within the city and also across the province since we are the seat of the provincial government,” said Engineer Mukaratirwa.

He also revealed that the city had eight fire fighters but because of the new fire fighting machines, these will be expanded to 18 full time personnel with recruitment of additional staff due soon.
