Masvingo- Beitbridge Road accident death toll rise, six victims identified

The death toll in an accident where a Ford Ranger collided head-on with a haulage truck at the 223-kilometre peg along the Masvingo-Beitbridge Road on Tuesday, has risen to

seven.

Police have since identified six of the victims. The six are Farai Rateiwa, from Makoni, Rusape, Andrew Dembura, Felistas Bhasitera, Isabel Dembura (nine), and Hilfrasia

Dembura (six) all of Nyabonga, Zaka in Masvingo.

National police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi said the seventh victim is a foreign national.

“Reference is made to the Zimbabwe Republic Police’s post on X platform regarding a fatal road traffic accident which occurred on September 3, 2024, at around 8 am at the 222-

kilometre peg along Masvingo-Beitbridge Road, Beitbridge,” he said.

“The death toll has risen to seven. Six victims have so far been identified by their next of kin. The Zimbabwe Republic Police implores motorists to observe all road rules and

regulations when travelling on the country’s roads. Above all, motorists are urged not to overtake in situations which are not safe to do so.”
