THE Zimbabwean team wearing the National Fabric caused a stir after winning the best outfit at the youth Partille Handball World Cup.

Zimbabwe’s Mashrhino Sports Academy represented the country at the Partille World Cup from July 1 to July 6 in Gothenburg, Sweden.

The Partille World Cup is the flagship  international youth handball tournament. It has been held annually since 1970 in Gothenburg during Week 27, every summer.

Around 1 400 teams from 50 nations participate each year. A staggering 5 000 matches are played across 70 pitches during the tournament. The Partille Cup aims to create a global meeting place where differences in colour, gender and culture are set aside.

The event emphasises cultural exchanges and leadership development for young players. This year, Mashrhino Sports Academy’s young handball team represented Zimbabwe.

At the opening ceremony of the tournaments, teams walk in wearing outfits that reflect their culture.

Zimbabwe’s team donned the National Fabric. Girls wore lime green dresses with matching headgear gear, while boys had National Fabric shirts.

After considering all the costumes worn by the multiple teams at the tournament, the Zimbabwean team won the best outfit.

The Partille World Cup team said in a video that has gone viral online: “Right now, I’m here with the team from Zimbabwe, and they have the best outfit during the opening ceremony. They have won for 15 people to come here next year for free.”
