Mashonaland Central Province has endorsed the candidature of President Mnangagwa for the 2023 harmonised elections.
The Zanu-PF provincial leadership here convened an inter-district meeting on Saturday to deliberate on resolutions for the upcoming 18th Annual People’s Conference, among other issues.
Agriculture, Lands, Water, Climate and Rural Resettlement Minister Retired Air Chief Marshal Perrance Shiri said he was worried about the situation at Jumbo Mine, which he said was an impending disaster.
He urged artisanal miners at the mine to get organised and registered.
Minister Shiri told the meeting that gold centres will soon be set up in the province to benefit youths, women and war veterans.
“Jumbo Mine is a gold claim that belongs to a company and it has many sophisticated levels underground. Random and disorganised mining will lead to a disaster, many people will perish,” said Cde Shiri.
“We fear for the lives of people and I urge youths to look for safer places to mine. I urge artisanal miners to come together, form syndicates and get registered so that Government can assist them.”
Cde Shiri told war veterans to use their experience and teach people about Zanu-PF in preparation for 2023 election.
Provincial chairperson Cde Kazembe Kazembe said disorganised artisanal mining has led to leakages in gold to other countries, prejudicing the country of millions of dollars.
“Ninety percent of people at Jumbo Mine are not from this province. People are taking advantage of the chaos. Let us organise ourselves and enjoy the benefits of our country’s natural resources,” said Cde Kazembe.
The meeting unanimously agreed to endorse President Mnangagwa as the sole candidate for the 2023 elections.
They agreed that leadership positions in the party must be given to candidates with good moral standing, who had also gone through ideological teaching at the Chitepo School of Ideology.
The meeting agreed to take the issue of expansion of food aid in the province and the availability of more ZUPCO buses to the congress.
They also resolved that Government must accelerate the expansion of irrigation schemes to boost agricultural production in the province.
Mash Central wants Government to reaffirm the recognition of war veterans and expeditiously set up a long overdue War Vets’ Memorial Hospital.
