Police here have launched a manhunt for a Goromonzi man who scalded his wife with five litres of water after an argument over a visit to the Registrar-General’s Office.

Police spokesperson for Mashonaland East Province Inspector Tendai Mwanza said on August 5, Antoni Warara (60), who is on the run, had a misunderstanding with his 47-year-old wife — Barbara Muzere — over the date on which to visit the Registrar-General’s Office to apply for a birth certificate for their nine-year-old child.

“Barbara wanted them to go on Friday last week, but Warara refused saying that they should go on a later day,” he said.

“They had a serious argument over the issue.

“Muzere retired to bed earlier, leaving her husband sitting by the fire outside.

“After a while, the husband went to their bedroom with a five litre container of hot water and poured it over his sleeping wife.”

Insp Mwanza said Muzere screamed for help and neighbours came to her rescue.

“Warara threatened to assault his wife’s aunt who was among people that responded to his wife’s cry for help and he disappeared into the night.

“Muzere was rushed to Parirenyatwa Hospital where her condition is reported to be critical after she sustained serious injuries on her face and belly,” he said.

Insp Mwanza appealed to members of the public to desist from using violence to solve disputes.

“We are appealing to members of the public to desist from engaging violence be it at their homes or anywhere,” he said.

“Violence destroys the moral fabric of any society, hence people must live in harmony and learn to resolve their disputes amicably and make peace with each other.

“We are appealing to anyone with information about Warara’s whereabouts to report to the nearest police station.”
