A CHINHOYI man who teamed up with his colleagues to assault and kill two farm guards has been remanded in custody.
Givemore Garande (38) was remanded to May 24 for trial continuation when he appeared before Chinhoyi Magistrate, Batsirai Madzingira, charged with public violence, murder and kidnapping.
Prosecuting, Ms Olivia Mukaro, told the court that on November 2, 2020, and at 8am, Charles Cherachera, (now deceased) and Opon Kadonzvo, who were employed as security guards at Citrus B Farm, Chinhoyi, were in the company of other security guards at the farm when they were attacked by the accused and his team of illegal settlers.
The security guards were destroying illegal structures erected by illegal settles, who had been evicted by the messenger of court.
Garande, teamed up with Lazarus Zhou, Martin Chapwanya and Joromiah Mutoti, who have since been arrested together with Patrick Mafusire and Sibanda.
They attacked and assaulted Cherachera and Kadonzvo, with machetes, logs, home-made knives, knob-berries and stones.
They disarmed Cherachera and Kadonzvo of their two firearms, a 12 bore Stevens Savage West Field shot-gun and an Amadeo Ross .38 special revolver.
Cherachera sustained several injuries including a swollen back, legs, head and hands but later died at Chinhoyi Provincial Hospital, on November 7.
The gang, then forced injured Kadonzvo into an unidentified vehicle together with the two firearms and drove to Harare, where they were subsequently arrested by detectives from CID Law and Order, who then recovered the two firearms and their ammunition.
Garande was arrested on April, 9 this year in Chinhoyi.
