A businessman at Checheche Growth Point near Chiredzi was allegedly swindled of over R11 000 by four fraudsters in a botched foreign currency deal.

Police in Chiredzi have since arrested Tafadzwa Matiza, Tashinga Zambezi, Herbert Kazembe and Tafadzwa Mugati (ages not given) all of Jerera for allegedly defrauding businessman Trymore Sithole whom they gave counterfeit United States dollars in return for the rand.

Acting Masvingo Province police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa said the four suspects would appear in court soon.

Assistant Inspector Dhewa said the suspects were arrested at Jerera Growth point.

It was alleged that the suspects approached Sithole at his business premises at Checheche and indicated that they had US$950, which they wanted to exchange for the South African rand.

He allegedly discovered later that the United States dollars he had been given were fake, but the suspects had already left.

A report was made to the police and police detectives launched investigations leading to the arrest of the four suspects in Zaka.
