A Zvishavane man who killed his wife in 2022 after she had used the money she had been given for relish, to buy a satchel, has been jailed for 18 years.
Nobert Mhlanga, who was 38 years old at the time, appeared before the High Court in Gweru facing murder charges.
His wife was 37. The court heard that on April 14, 2022, a misunderstanding arose between the couple at their homestead at Tagwirei village under Chief Mazvihwa in Zvishavane.
The wife bought a satchel using the money the accused person had given her for relish and a misunderstanding arose.
Mhlanga then assaulted his wife several times all over the body before dragging her outside where he struck her three times on the head using a hoe.
He also pummeled her with bricks all over the body and she died on the spot. The matter was reported to the police leading his arrest.
The National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe has since encouraged members of the public to desist from violence and resolve their disputes amicably or to seek a third party for mediation.
