A MUSHUMBI man was last week slapped with an effective 18-year jail term after he was convicted of possessing pangolin scales, lion claws and several body parts of various endangered species as well as trophies.

Guruve resident magistrate Mr Shingirai Mutiro sentenced Shake Mafuka (60) to 18 years behind bars before making him pay a $300 fine for possessing a hippopotamus tooth, ivory and a genet’s tail.

If he fails to pay the fine, Mafuka will serve an additional three months in jail.

Mafuka was convicted on his own guilty plea.
