A Chitungwiza man on Wednesday appeared in court accused of killing a prostitute he had hired for the night. Tafadzwa Zendamaoko (31) allegedly strangled the woman, Miriam Kugara, and left her naked body in her room.

This was after stealing her cellphone.

Zendamaoko, of No. 5079 Unit A in Chitungwiza, appeared before Harare magistrate Mr Milton Serima facing murder charges.

He was not formally charged and Mr Serima advised him to seek bail at the High Court.

He is expected back in court on January 7 next year.

Prosecutor Mr Sebastian Mutizirwa told the court that Kugara plied her trade at Gora Night Club at Unit L Shopping Centre.

It is alleged that on the night of December 3 this year Kugara was hired by Zendamaoko for sex.

The court heard that the pair agreed to spend the night at Miriam’s house at No. 17820 Unit M, Chitungwiza.

It is alleged that a misunderstanding ensured over uncertain issues, which ended with Zendamaoko killing her in her room.

The following day Kugara’s body was discovered by her friend who visited her at around 11am.

The court heard that an autopsy revealed that Kugara had died of manual strangulation due to asphyxia.

Zendamaoko was arrested on Unity Day holiday following police investigations.
