A 26-year-old Seke man will spend a year behind bars for sleeping with a 15-year-old girl and assaulting her, accusing her of cheating after she fell pregnant. Aaron Smoke of Seke proposed to the Form Three drop out in March and they started having sexual intercourse until the girl fell pregnant.

This resulted in the girl eloping to Smoke’s residence and they lived as husband and wife until September.
As they were staying together, Smoke started physically abusing the minor and accusing her of infidelity.
He sent the girl packing, asking her to return to her mother’s house.

As a result of the prolonged abuse, the girl left Smoke, but he started stalking her.
He even threatened to punish her for being in a relationship with someone else while she was carrying his child.
The girl informed her mother about Smoke’s behaviour and she reported the matter to the police, leading to his arrest.

Chitungwiza magistrate Mr Kudakwashe Jarabini slapped Smoke with a 12-month jail term after he pleaded guilty to three counts of sleeping with a minor, another of domestic violence and stalking.
Mr Edmond Ndambakuwa prosecuted.
