IMPRESSED by the modern and unique waste management project being implemented by Geo Pomona Waste Management in Harare during his visit to the plant on the sidelines of the 44th SADC Summit of Heads of State and Government, Madagascan President Andry Rajoelina has invited the firm to his country.
They will be in Madagascar from today till September 16 as Madagascar is looking to replicate the same concept which has provided a solution to waste management problems in Zimbabwe.
The visit will include tours to several waste dump sites in Antananarivo, which is Madagascar’s capital city.
Meetings with various officials from the country’s Government departments, including the Ministry of Environment and Sustainability Development and the Ministry of Energy and Hydrocarbons are lined up.
In an invitation letter, Madagascar’s Ministry of Energy and Hydrocarbons said they were looking to tap into Geo Pomona Waste Management’s expertise.
“We are pleased to invite you to visit our waste-to-energy projects in Madagascar, which will take place between September 12 and 16, 2024. This meeting aims to introduce you first-hand to the initiatives we are implementing in this crucial area.
“Your expertise in waste management and your experience at Geo Pomona Waste Management (pvt) Ltd would be a great value to enrich our discussions and consider future collaborations,” said the Madagascar government.
The visit to Madagascar by Geo Pomona is a spin-off from the Summit of Heads of State which saw President Mnangagwa assuming Chairmanship of the regional body.
Geo Pomona Waste Management has continued to receive thumbs up from various countries and world bodies, including the United Nations for offering long-term solutions to waste management and energy generation problems in the region.
During the Sadc summit, President Rajoelina, King Mswati of Eswatini and Botswana President Mokgweetsi Masisi visited the Geo Pomona site in northern Harare. They were accompanied by President Mnangagwa.
