‘Lockdown best way to curb Covid-19’ President Mnangagwa

The road to completing the 21-day Covid-19 lockdown aimed at curbing the spread of the coronavirus is long but is the right thing to do, President Mnangagwa said yesterday on his Twitter handle while thanking Zimbabweans for their self-discipline.

The lockdown clocked one-week yesterday and the levels of compliance by Zimbabweans have been impressive.

So far, nine cases of Covid-19 have been recorded in Zimbabwe including one fatality, but globally, Covid-19 has killed over 60 000 while confirmed infections are over one million with most in the more severely hit countries not actually tested and confirmed unless they are in vulnerable groups

Posting on his Twitter page yesterday, President Mnangagwa applauded Zimbabweans for their self-discipline during the lockdown.

“Wishing a blessed Sunday to my brothers and sisters in lockdown. I am proud of the way you have responded to this challenging situation, with discipline, commitment and spirit. The road is long, but we are on the right path. Stay strong and keep it up. Together, we shall overcome,” he said.

Replying to the tweet, several Zimbabweans applauded President Mnangagwa for leading from the front in fighting the Covid-19 pandemic.

A Twitter user going by the name @MarihohoWellie said: “Cde President. The way you have led in this fight against Covid-19 is remarkable. Those who doubted your leadership qualities and ability are now quiet and admiring you. You joke when its time but when duty calls you spring into superstardom. Thank you Murambwi. Thank you!!!”

Another twitter user @TeamEDpfee said: “Thank you Shumba Murambwi, 2030 tinenge tichipo. Fambai chikara, mhuka huru inofamba zvisina ruzha, zvinyoro nyoro, tichiinda mberi, tinosvika chete future ye Zimbabwe (Step by step, moving forward, we will get there). Flag of Zimbabwe, vatsigiri venyu tichipo, (we are behind you) stay super safe Shumba.”

@cassiekaone said: “Thank you Baba for wishing us, thank you for love I know that you care for us come rain come thunder you will try your best. Have a blessed day Cde.”

Twitter user @JonesMusara said: “Thank you Cde President for the encouraging message” while @mdluli_marty posted: “Siyabonga Mr President, we remain steadfast”. President Mnangagwa last week said security personnel would enforce the lockdown with a listening ear and Zimbabweans have heeded the call to stay at home during the lockdown.
