The Reformed Church University in Masvingo has scored a first after launching a sexual and reproductive health dictionary in Braille for the visually-impaired. The launch of the dictionary is in line with the university’s vision to promote inclusive education in Zimbabwe.

RCU business development information and public relations officer Mr Stephen Chikozho said the dictionary would go a long way in addressing some gaps on sexual and reproductive health issues and those with visual impairments would immensely benefit from the initiative.

He said the university chose sexual and reproductive health as the visually-impaired were missing on important information that concerned their rights, especially on HIV and Aids issues.

“As RCU, we have finally published a dictionary on sexual and reproductive health for the visually impaired students and members of society,” said Mr Chikozho.

Acting RCU Vice Chancellor Dr Enos Chomutiri said the writing of the dictionary was done after the realisation of knowledge gaps relating to sexual and reproductive health.

“This was done after realising the significant knowledge gaps existing in sexual and reproductive health issues between people without visual impairment and the visually-impaired,” he said.
“RCU found it imperative to produce the unique dictionary.

“We approached the Ministry of Higher and Tertiary Education, Science and Technology Development in 2015 over the issue and we were given an approval.
“The ministry has been supporting us through and through with funds for this project.”
