STAKEHOLDERS in the agricultural sector should work hand-in-glove with the Government to ensure food security at household level, Lands, Agriculture, Water, Climate and Rural Resettlement Deputy Minister Vangelis Haritatos has said.

Speaking at the signing ceremony of an agreement between Corteva Agriscience and Valley Seeds (Pvt) Ltd in Harare on Tuesday, Cde Haritatos said the agreement is a clear testimony that some companies are committed to invest in the agricultural sector.

“This is in line with our mandate as a Government to enable food security, sustainable agriculture and promote enterprises development in Zimbabwe. We need to ensure that food at household level is achieved.

“I know this collaboration will benefit both commercial and small-scale farmers in our country.

“I am delighted to be part of this exciting event in our market, where we celebrate the strategic collaboration between Corteva Agriscience and Valley Seeds, a privately owned international trading and distribution company with many years of experience in the field of importing and distributing of agricultural products.

These products include fertiliser, pesticides and seed from both the domestic and overseas markets,” he said.

He added that the collaboration is a good example of how multinational companies can work with local companies to benefit both the country and the economy.

By providing farmers with the highest quality seeds available anywhere in the world, Cde Haritatos said Corteva will be promoting the kinds of economic opportunity that will allow all Zimbabweans to benefit from sustainable economic growth and agricultural prosperity.

Corteva Agriscience sells Pioneer and Pannar brand seeds in Zimbabwe.

Under the agreement, Corteva Agriscience appoints Valley Seed as their as their strategic collaborator in Zimbabwe.

Corteva Agriscience commercial unit leader for East Africa Mr Joseph Anampiu said as part of their agreement, Valley Seeds will assume the marketing and sales responsibility of Pannar brand seeds in Zimbabwe.

“This collaboration endorses our commitment to collaborations across the food chain to transform the role of agriculture in society and enhance the livelihood of farmers in Zimbabwe. The company will support Valley Seeds by providing agronomic support and services in the set up.

“Corteva Agriscience will provide Valley Seeds with back end technical support,” said Mr Anampiu.

Valley Seeds chief executive Mr Temba Nkatazo said the development will go a long way in supporting the agricultural sector.
