The snakes that had escaped from Kwekwe City Council owned Sable Park have been recaptured and returned to their enclosures.

The snakes, two pythons and an unconfirmed number of mambas that escaped due to deteriorating standards at the amusement park had become a threat to Mbizo residents.

The city’s director of Works Engineer John Mhike told a full council meeting on Monday that all the snakes had been accounted for.

“I can confirm that the snakes have been recaptured and taken back to their places. We had received numerous reports from residents who has seen the snakes and council managed to attend to all of those, the snakes are now safe,” he said.

He said a major renovation programme was in progress at the snake park to prevent a repeat.

“We are going through the renovation process at the park, of course it might take some time due to non-availability of resources. But so far we have managed to renovate the enclosures where the snakes stay and they are safe and secure. There is no need to panic anymore,” said Eng Mhike.
