Kuwadzana horror crash victims identified

Police have released the names of the seven victims who were killed when a Toyota Hiace kombi collided with a fuel tanker in Kuwadzana.
This was after the seven were identified by their next of kin. National police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi said, “Reference is made to the Zimbabwe Republic Police’s press statement dated October 31, 2024 and a post on our X handle on a fatal road traffic accident which occurred along Harare-Bulawayo Road, Kuwadzana 7 turn-off, Harare on October 31, 2024 at around 5.10 am.
“The Zimbabwe Republic Police releases the names of the seven victims who were killed when a Toyota Hiace kombi collided with a fuel tanker. The victims were identified by their next of kin.”
They are Susan Fly (37), a female adult of Kuwadzana 5, Harare, Taonezvi Makumbe (54), a male adult of Kuwadzana 5, Harare.
Benson Musimi (36), a male adult of Kuwadzana 5, Harare, Romeo Mahefu (20), a male adult of Kuwadzana 5, Harare, Egnes Maenzanise (48), a female adult of Kuwadzana 5, Harare, Neli Gwezera (27), a male adult of Kuwadzana 5, Harare and Aleck Dambaza (37), a male adult of Kuwadzana 5, Harare.
“The Zimbabwe Republic Police implores public service vehicle operators to observe all road rules and regulations when traveling on the country’s roads to safeguard lives,” Comm Nyathi said.
“Above all, motorists are urged to exercise caution and practice good driving conduct to promote road safety.”
Meanwhile, the commuter omnibus driver, who allegedly turned right into the lane of an oncoming fuel tanker, has been charged with culpable homicide following a fatal accident that occurred along the Harare-Bulawayo road at Kuwadzana turn-off early Thursday morning.
The tragedy claimed seven lives and left scores injured. In a statement issued on Thursday evening, Transport and Infrastructural Development Minister Felix Mhona described the driver’s action as a “reckless” and a “blatant violation” of road rules.
