FORMER Warriors captain, Willard Katsande, says he is ready to help newly-promoted South African Premiership side, Sekhukhune United, achieve their goals.

The veteran midfielder joined the Johannesburg side yesterday.

Katsande has been a free agent, after parting ways with Kaizer Chiefs, over a week ago.

And, a number of clubs, had been linked with the 35-year-old Zimbabwean, including AmaZulu and Moroka Swallows, among other teams in South Africa.

But, Katsande has opted to sign for the ambitious newcomers, where he joins compatriots Tapuwa Kapini, Talent Chawapihwa and Charlton Mashumba.

Another Zimbabwean, Blessing Sarupinda, could be on his way also to team up with the quartet, as he is on the verge of penning a deal, with the side. “I am happy with signing for Sekhukhune United,” said Katsande.

“I am ready to give my all to the team’s cause.

“This is a new beginning and I am excited. Several teams had approached me and I am happy for that. “I then settled for Sekhukhune.”

Katsande said he is looking forward to playing alongside his compatriots.

“It’s a good motivation for me. Teaming up with your compatriots is one thing any player dreams about.

“To be linking up with Tapuwa (Kapini), Talent (Chawapihwa) and others is definitely something to cherish.

“I am happy to be at Sekhukhune United. They are an ambitious team, which wants to achieve.

“It’s good to be joining a club like that. As a player, I am ready to give them my all, to help them achieve their goals.

“I have been in the Premiership trenches for quite a long time and I believe the experience I have gathered, playing the game, will help my new team.’’

He doesn’t expect an easy ride.

“I know the league is very competitive and it will be tough up there but, with the ambition being shown by my new team, I believe we will be able to compete with the best in the league,’’ he said. “You know, joining a club with such ambition is the best thing, one can clamour for.

“I still have what it takes to compete and I am happy with the platform that I have been afforded by the team.

“The best thing that I can do, as an individual, is to give it my all.”

With several clubs scrambling for Katsande’s signature, Sekhukhune are believed to have tabled a very good offer, which the Zimbabwean hardman just could not resist.

Sekhukhune United have signed Thabo Rakhale, Pogiso Mahlangu and Edwin Gyimah.
