A 47-year-old Kariba man Scotch Gawa, died yesterday morning after he was attacked by an elephant in the resort town’s suburb of Batonga.
Zimbabwe Republic Police acting provincial spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Effort Chapoto confirmed the death of Scotch Gawa of 2228 Batonga, Kariba, who was attacked by an elephant during the early hours of yesterday while coming from a drinking spree.

“The deceased passed through his son, Joshua Chingere’s house, in Nyamhunga 3, Kariba,” he said.

“Joshua noticed that his father was drunk and he decided to accompany him halfway to his residence and left him at a bridge between Nyamhunga 3 and Batonga area Kariba.

“It was only on August 29 around 7 am that Joshua heard people making noise about the incident near his house and proceeded to the scene.

“He discovered that his father had been attacked by an elephant and he reported the issue to the Zimbabwe National Parks and Wildlife Authority officials who then alerted police officers at Nyamhunga Police Post.”

The body was taken to Kariba District Hospital Mortuary for a post-mortem.

Assistant Inspector Chapoto urged the public to take extra care when moving around the Kariba area where human-wildlife conflicts are rife.
