Over 200 widows and other vulnerable households in the high density suburb of Kambuzuma this week received food hampers from a youth group to assist them during the ongoing Covid19 lockdown.

The group, I am Kambuzuma, is part of the I am Zimbabwe Trust, focused on empowering youths in various communities and offering assistance to the underprivileged.

The hampers were handed to the beneficiaries at centres in the various Sections of the suburb in line with Covid 19 regulations.
Mr Charles Guvamatanga, a founder member of the I am Kambuzuma Trust said their efforts were part of efforts give back to the community.

“As young people who grew up in Kambuzuma we thought of this initiative to assist widows, the elderly and other vulnerable groups during this period where they are facing several hardships, some of them induced by restrictions aimed at curbing Covid19,” he said.

He added that they were also assisting the vulnerable groups register with Department of Social Welfare so that they could access various Government initiatives to assist the needy especially during the lockdown.

A beneficiary of the assistance, Erina Phiri thanked the youth group for remembering them in their time of need.

” This is a welcome initiative and we thank them for bringing this assistance.

“Many young people are into alcohol and drug abuse but these ones have sought a different path that will benefit the community,” she said.

The youth group also encourages young people to take part in various Government empowerment programmes like the Presidential clean up campaign and other initiatives to prevent them from engaging in illegal activities.
