Japan will continue to provide assistance to Zimbabwe to facilitate robust development in a sustainable manner, Japanese ambassador to Zimbabwe Mr Satoshi Tanaka has said.

He made the remarks in his congratulatory message to mark the birth anniversary of His Majesty the Emperor of Japan Hiro-nomiya Naruhito Shinnō.

Mr Tanaka said his country was cementing cordial relations by partnering Zimbabwe in its development agenda in various ways.

“The annual Emperor’s Birthday Celebration is also an opportunity for us to deepen our friendly relations with the people of Zimbabwe,” he said.

“Zimbabwe is blessed with abundant agricultural and mining resources and has great potential. I would like to take this opportunity to reflect on the recent development of friendly relations between Zimbabwe and Japan.

“For example, we have recently decided to provide various kinds of humanitarian assistance, such as emergency food assistance to the most vulnerable through international organisations.

“In addition, we are providing assistance in various other fields, such as in healthcare. We are providing medical and hospital equipment to support the country’s COVID-19 response, and in infrastructure development we are improving a road section of the North-South Corridor.”
