THE First Lady Amai Auxillia Mnangagwa has through her philanthropic organisation Angel of Hope Foundation donated food to 10 children’s homes in the Midlands province.

The homes, which include two which cater for the physically and mentally challenged children were drawn from Gweru, Kwekwe, Zvishavane, Shurugwi and Silobela.

The donated groceries include mealie-meal, rice, cooking oil, soap and soya chunks.

The First Lady is the country’s health ambassador with a passion for the welfare of children, women and other vulnerable groups.

Recently she launched the school feeding programme for school going children to ensure they are well fed and are able to attend classes on full stomachs.

Speaking during the handover of the donation in Bulawayo, Midlands Minister for Provincial Affairs and Devolution Larry Mavima said the donations were coming at the right time when a lot of children’s homes were facing challenges in procuring food m due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

“Allow me to acknowledge the First Lady Amai Auxillia Mnangagwa through her philanthropic organisation Angel of Hope Foundation for this generous donation to these vulnerable groups. Your support is valuable to us and it shows that you are indeed a mother of our nation,” he said.

Minister Mavima said through her philanthropic work, Amai Mnangagwa was changing lives across the country.

“Your efforts Amai are commended as you are going around the country changing the lives of the ordinary people. You are a special type of a person that changes lives and makes the world a better place. Thank you Amai for this great donation to the Midlands province and throughout the entire country,” he said.

“In these tough times you have decided to think about the less privileged as most of these homes you are donating to are struggling to cope because of Covid- 19.”

A representative of the beneficiaries, Sister Stella Khumalo from the Gweru-based Queen of Peace Rehabilitation home said this Covid-19 period has been difficult for a lot of homes adding that the donation by Amai Mnangagwa was coming at a right time.

“We are touched and humbled by this donation which is coming at a time when we really need assistance in the form of food and hygiene products. This donation has food and soap and we appreciate the gesture by Amai Mnangagwa,” said Sister Khumalo.
