UPDATED : Civil servants get bonuses

Herald Reporter
All civil servants will receive their bonuses by tomorrow in line with Government’s commitment to pay the 13th cheque before the end of this month.

Government started processing the payments yesterday, starting with the Zimbabwe National Army, Air Force of Zimbabwe, health sector, Zimbabwe Republic Police and the Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services.

Bonuses for the education sector will be processed today, while the rest of the civil service will receive their bonuses tomorrow. This is a major improvement and departure from previous years where payment of bonuses was staggered, with some payments stretching to the middle of the following year.

In a letter to the chairperson of the Civil Service Commission, Dr Vincent Hungwe, Finance and Economic Development secretary Mr George Guvamatanga confirmed the dates.

“You will recall that in his 2019 National Budget Statement, the Honourable Minister of Finance and Economic Development, re-affirmed Government’s commitment to honour the 2018 13th cheque benefit payable to the members of the public service,” said Mr Guvamatanga.

“In the same vein, consistent with the focus on enhancing the health of our public finances through institution of various austerity measures, the Honourable Minister of Finance and Economic Development advised that the 13th cheque will be computed based on basic salary only (excluding transport and housing allowances).”
