Indigenous churches have condoled with President Mnangagwa over a recent spate of deaths caused by the Covid-19 pandemic which has also claimed senior Government officials including Cabinet ministers.

Over the recent past Cabinet ministers Rtd Lt Gen Sibusiso Moyo and Cde Biggie Joel Matiza succumbed to Covid-19 and are awaiting burial at the Heroes’ Acre tomorrow after being declared national heroes.

The two heroes passed on at around the same time with former Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services boss Rtd Major General Paradzai Zimondi who was also declared a national hero and will be buried at the same time with the two Cabinet ministers tomorrow.

Their deaths followed last week’s demise of Manicaland Minister of State for Provincial Affairs Dr Ellen Gwaradzimba and veteran nationalist Cde Morton Malianga who were also interred at the national shrine in a dual burial.

The spate of deaths has forced the Zimbabwe Indigenous Interdenominational Council of Churches (ZICC) working under the armbit of the Faith for the Nation (FANA) campaign to condole with President Mnangagwa.

ZICC national chair Reverend Andrew Wutawunashe today handed a solidary message with President Mnangagwa to Masvingo Provincial Affaird Minister Ezra Chadzamira.

Speaking during the handover of the solidarity message for onward transmission to the President, Rev Wutawunashe said the burden of deaths caused by Covid-19 needs prayers from churches.

Rev Wutawunashe noted that President Mnangagwa needed solidarity and prayers from churches having lost key cogs of his Cabinet some of whom were instrumental in pushing for Vision 2030.

He also lamented that many ordinary Zimbabweans had also lost their lives to the pandemic which was a toll on the shoulders of President President Mnangagwa as Head of State and Government.

He implored Zimbabweans to pray for God to spare the country more deaths to the pandemic.

Minister Chadzamira hailed indigenous churches for standing by President Mnangagwa’s Government in this time of strife.
