Independence concert on tomorrow

A massive Independence concert has been lined up for the Borrowdale Race Course tomorrow.
Dubbed “Jive Zimbabwe 34” , the concert will be running under the theme “Jive for Self Determination”.One of the organisers of the show Marian Kunonga said all was set for the concert that is meant to celebrate the country’s independence.

“The concert is scheduled for independence eve, at the Borrowdale Race Course from 6pm to midnight. Admission to the concert is free and it will be broadcast live on ZBCTV and Radio from 9pm,” said Kunonga.

She said all the artists had confirmed their participation at the Independence celebrations.

“Everything has been put in place and all the artists have confirmed their participation at the event and a lot is expected on that day,” she said.
Previous Independence concerts have been successfully held in the country with most of them being staged in the capital.

The Independence gala will see artists the likes of Alick Macheso, Tariro Negitare, Soul Jah Love, Sulumani Chimbetu, Sniper Storm, Sebastain Magacha, Mathias Mhere, Leonard Zhakata, Edith Weutonga, Baba naAmai Charamba, Sandra Ndebele, Iyasa, Hope Masike, Babongile Sikhonjwa and Doc Vikela performing.

The line up has a mixture of all genres including stand up comedians. Sungura king Macheso, Zhakata and Chimbetu will represent the genre while the Charambas, Mhere, and Magacha will be representing gospel fratenity.

In an interview, Macheso promised his best in song and dance.

“We will do our best to make sure that people feel that we are free in this country,” he said.

Masike, Weutonga and Tariro will be representing Afro-jazz music while Vikela will wow the audience with his stand up comedy.
