Hichilema fires Information minister

LUSAKA. – Zambia’s President Hakainde Hichilema has sacked his Information Minister Chushi Kasanda in a mini-cabinet reshuffle announced on Monday.
Kasanda was replaced with Cornelius Mweetwa, the ruling United Party for National Development spokesperson and Southern Province minister.
A statement issued by Clayson Hamasaka, State House spokesperson added that President Hichilema undertook significant changes at both the ministerial and Permanent Secretary levels, reflecting his administration’s commitment to effective governance and the pursuit of national development goals.
Hamasaka added that Hichilema has also terminated the job of Anna Songolo from the office of Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries pursuant to Article 270 of the Constitution.
“Hichilema has transferred the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Information and Media Kennedy Kalunga to Cabinet office and has since appointed Thabo Kawana as permanent secretary at the Ministry of Information and Media subject to Article 184 (l) of the Constitution,” he said.
Hichilema appointed Ron Mwambwa, as Auditor General subject to ratification by the National Assembly.
In a statement, the Non-governmental Gender Organisations’ Coordinating Council executive director Anne Mbewe Anamela said the women’s movement was deeply concerned about the low numbers of women in decision making decisions. – Times of Zambia
