HARARE City coach Mark Harrison says his charges have even defied expectations with their strong performance in the first half of the season.

The club completed their first half of the marathon with a 3-0 win over Yadah Stars at Rufaro on Sunday.

“So far so good for the team. We were Division One-bound and I think that has helped us a lot as we have been playing without any pressure whatsoever,” said Harrison.

“The boys deserve credit for the work they have put into the project so far.

“We have played against good teams in the league but, look, we have lost just three times to championship-chasing teams.

“I think my club is balanced and we will be eager to come back from the break desperate to replicate or even surpass the form we have been in the first half.

“Our emphasis to the boys has always been to play good football. We have been telling the players not to exert too much pressure on themselves. That has helped a lot. I want to give credit to the boys for playing according to instructions.

“Harare City has all what it takes to be competitive and they have just proven so. We hope to do well in the next round.’’

He said he could bring in one or two players. “I have one player whom I will take on board if the executive gives us the green light to do so. It’s every coach’s dream to have a balanced side with very competitive players,’’ he said.

“At the moment I am very happy with what I have at my disposal. I have a very good squad which can compete.

“As any other coach, though, there are some areas which I would like to reinforce during the mid-season window period, but the executive should give me the permission to do so first.

“Otherwise I am happy.”

The former CAPS United gaffer is also hoping captain Tendai Samanja recovers in time for the resumption of the campaign. The ex-Monomotapa and CAPS United anchorman was at the receiving end of a tackle by Milton Makopa in Sunday’s match against Yadah.

He had to be stretchered off in tears.

“I just hope Samanja recovers well in time for the resumption of the league. I think he went over his knees after that tackle.
