The situation in Harare is now calm with the city officials expected to refocus their energies towards providing basic services, including water, repairing roads and providing primary health care, provincial development coordinator Mr Tafadzwa Muguti has said.

Speaking during an interactive meeting between Government and Harare City Council officials today, Mr Muguti said Government was doing its best to address the local governance issues in the province that had deteriorated thus inconveniencing ratepayers.

“As you are aware, the city has gone through a difficult phase and this affected leadership in terms of both councillors and senior executives,” he said.

“Government views the City of Harare as a strategic entity in Zimbabwe because it is the face of the country. That is why we are all here to assist in stabilising the capital city and ensure that it performs its mandate fully.”
