Harare dominate ZICA games Tapera Chikandiwa

Harare Province emerged overall winners of the inaugural Zimbabwe Independent Colleges Association (ZICA) national ball games competitions after coming first in nine sporting disciplines. The competitions were held at Conway College in Harare yesterday and attracted schools from Harare, Bulawayo, Mashonaland Central and Mashonaland West. The High school students competed in volleyball, soccer, basketball, netball, handball and darts in boys and girls’ categories.

ZICA liaison officer Tapera Chikandiwa said the schools that excelled at district level were competing in the national competitions.

“This is an inaugural event to be held by ZICA and these competitions will go a long way in nurturing talent. Various provinces were well represented here. “Everything went according to plan; no hiccups were experienced and we are happy that the competitions were successful” he said. Bulawayo Independent Colleges Association (BICA) president Moses Sibanda hailed the competitions which provided a platform for students to showcase their talents. “We came with six teams from Bulawayo. As a province we look forward to taking the trophy home in Bulawayo.” Bulawayo came second while Mashonaland Central Province and Mashonaland West took the third and fourth position respectively.

Handball U17 boys -Mash Central; Handball U17 girls -Harare; Darts U17 boys -Harare; Darts U20 girls – Harare; Netball U20 -Mash Central; Netball U17 – Harare; Basketball U17 boys – Harare; Basketball U15 boys – Harare ; Basketball U20 – Harare; Basketball U17girls; Basketball U20 girls – Bulawayo; Girls’ soccer – Bulawayo; Volleyball U17 girls – Harare; Volleyball U17 boys – Harare; Volleyball U20 boys -Mash Central; Volleyball U20 girls – Bulawayo; Soccer U20 boys – Bulawayo; Soccer U17 boys – Mash West.
