Harare businessman Nathan Mnaba was yesterday acquitted of $380 000 fraud charges by a Harare magistrate.

Mnaba, whose case opened in 2012, was being accused of fraudulently acquiring a local firm — Norwich Trading Company — and registering it in his name without the owner, Nighert Parween Savania’s consent.

Mnaba appeared before magistrate Mr Trynos Utawashe and was acquitted.

Mr Utawashe ruled that evidence tendered before the court proved that Mnaba had informed the complainant of the meeting to change ownership, but she decided not to attend.

“The dispute between the two parties is civil and both parties cannot use this criminal court to settle the fights,” he said.

“I hereby dismiss the case and acquit the accused.
