Gvt embarks on Biometric Life Certificate verification

Government has embarked on a Biometric Life Certificate verification exercise for pensioners to enhance the security of the pension system in order to curb corruption.

In a statement, the benefits of the exercise to Government and pensioners are, avoiding payment to ghost pensioners, enhancing the security of the pension system to curb corruption and enhancing service delivery.

“The Public Service Commission requests all pensioners who have metal identical cards and do not have valid passports to visit the nearest Registrar General’s office and obtain a plastic ID so that their biometric data is captured. Pensioners are reminded to make use of the Registrar’s General office nearest to them within the same time or locality in compliance with the Covid 19 regulations.

“Pensioners are requested to present a bank statement or pension payslip to prove that they are Government pensioners. No payment is required for this exercise.

“We expect this exercise to be completed by 31 August 2021. From 1 October 2021, only those with verified biometric data will be paid their pension.

“All pensioners are kindly advised to ensure that they have registered their biometrics to be compliant with this new requirement,” reads the statement from the Public Service Commission.
