Gutu Rural District Council has proposed a $3,5 million budget for next year, with focus on improving service delivery and revenue inflows.
The announcement of the draft budget proposal for the local authority comes as it angles to become the best in terms of service delivery by 2020.
The budget is expected to help council drive its development agenda through its six critical departments namely, Finance, Community Services, Audit, Road Works and Planning, Human Resources and Administration,Agriculture and Natural Resources. Gutu RDC chief executive Mr Alexander Mtembwa yesterday said he was optimistic that the local authority would meet its set goals of delivering service within its proposed budget.
He said the budget was subject to change due to price fluctuations caused by prevailing inflationary pressures in the economy.
“We have completed our budget consultation,” he said. “Our 2019 budget proposal stands at $3,5 million. But let me categorically state that the $3,5 million proposal is subject to change by the responsible stakeholders, considering the economic and price fluctuation.”
Gutu RDC is targeting installation of street lights, road rehabilitation, provision of adequate facilities at council-run schools, servicing of new residential stands, among other projects next year.
“We are right now conducting an induction workshop for new councillors so that they get down to work in the respective portfolio committees,” said Mr Mtembwa.
The proposed budget is now awaiting Government approval.
