Graduation party turns bloody

Court Reporter

TWO men yesterday appeared at the Harare Magistrates’ Court on allegations of stabbing and killing a neighbour they accused of playing loud music at a graduation party in Epworth.

Felix Chitambira (40) and Panashe Chitambira (18) were not asked to plead when they appeared before Mr Dennis Mangosi charged with murder, but were remanded in custody until December 21 and told that only the High Court can grant bail on murder charges.

The State alleges that on November 29 at around 8pm the late John Shoriwa was at a graduation party he had been invited to in Overspill, Epworth.

Panashe Chitambira, who lives near the party venue was not happy about the noise at the party and allegedly started hurling stones at party-goers.

Mr Shoriwa then approached Panashe with the intention of reprimanding him, but Felix Chitambira allegedly intervened and a scuffle ensued.

The two neighbours allegedly waylaid Mr Shoriwa on his way back home after the party and one of them stabbed him twice with a knife on the back.

Mr Shoriwa later died from the wounds leading to the two’s arrest.
