Government will soon open Gokwe’s Sengwa Coal mine as the country seeks to expand energy and electricity generation sources that is critical to the resuscitation of industries in the country, Vice President Constantino Chiwenga has said.

Addressing thousands of Zanu-PF supporters in Gokwe North under Chief Simchembo last week, VP Chiwenga said the new Government administration was focusing on resuscitating the country’s industries and the nation needed to double its electricity generation capacity, which is critical for the industry to tick.

He said the focus now was to increase electricity generation capacity and Sengwa Coal Mine was on top of Government’s priority list.

“We want to reopen the industries that had been closed, all the companies and factories that has been closed, but for these industries and companies to tick, electricity is a critical component,” said VP Chiwenga. This is why the President (Emmerson) Mnangagwa has been in Hwange recently where he opened unit 7 and 8 power generation plants.

“Here in Gokwe we want to open the Sengwa coal mine and for it to be opened, we need a lot of electricity generation. The mine is one of our top priorities so as a country, we need to increase our electricity generation capacity.”
