“Societies are now paying up. Even the service providers have acknowledged in the last meeting we had that there is a great improvement from societies in terms of settling claims. There are some societies who have even cleared all their arrears in excess of 60 days,” said Dr Mombeshora who is also the deputy Minister of Health and Child Welfare.

Some of these societies who have settled claims in excess of 60 days include CIMAS, Fidelity Life Medical Aids Society, First Mutual Medical Savings Fund and Grainmed Medical Aid Society.
Dr Mombeshora said Government would continue monitoring all the registered societies to ensure that they complied with Government regulations.

“It is important to note that everyday is the 60th day for some claims hence Government will constantly monitor societies’ compliance to the law,” he said.

In line with the laws that govern operations of medical aid societies in Zimbabwe, societies are expected to pay service providers all their claims within 60 days.

On the other hand, no service provider should refuse treatment to patients holding a valid medical aid card.

JAC seeks to reduce co-payments and shortfalls and control both societies and service providers from unfair practices.

In its quest to bring sanity in the medical fraternity, JAC is set to impose medical consultation fees within the next two weeks.
