PROFESSIONAL golfer John Milazi is happy that golf is likely to get an opportunity to return after a long lay-off.
Golf is one of the 24-sports codes regarded as a low-risk sport and was recently allowed to resume its activities after the revised lockdown restrictions.
Milazi, who turned professional in 2016 after a successful amateur career, believes it is the right time for the sport to return as it is not giving them a chance to play competitively.
“We are keeping our fingers crossed that inspections at club houses are done so that we can finally resume playing golf.
Most professional and amateur golfers no longer have their swing as we are rusty.
“We are looking forward to playing in other Tours like the Safari and Sunshine Tours but when we are not playing back at home it becomes difficult,” said Milazi.
The 31-year-old, who lost his newborn baby girl during the lockdown, also spoke on the lack of game time as sponsors are hard to come by because corporates are finding it hard as well.
Milazi is hopeful to find a personal sponsor who will help him get back to his best when the sport resumes.
“We are going through a tough time as you know our last competitive event was the Mashwede Open back in November last year when we were given the greenlight.
I just hope that we get the much-needed support as most of us have since turned to golf coaching.
“We are family men and survive on golf and without the support, we find ourselves on hard times.
I hope I will get a sponsor who will support me so that I can also take part in events in East Africa.
I am still good at the game and with more game time I will get back to my best,” added Milazi.
